What is a petrol and oil interceptor?

Petrol and Oil Interceptor:

A petrol and oil interceptor is usually associated with automotive workshops such as a garage, carwash, etc.  It is also referred to as a Triple Interceptor.  The tank is designed to arrest waste products such as petrol, oil and other hydrocarbons to prevent contamination of downstream drainage systems.

Petrol and oil interceptors slow the flow of waste allowing grease, oil, and traces of fuel and solvents to float to the top.  Solids settle on the bottom and cleaner water exits to the sewer.

A petrol and oil interceptor needs to be of sufficient capacity to hold contaminated waste water for at least one hour before being discharged to sewer.  The appropriate size tank will be nominated by your local water authority under your trade waste agreement.  Where there are space limitations, Viking Plastics can custom make equivalent capacity tanks to fit the available space.

Tank contents, including Hydrocarbons, are pumped out on regular intervals according to the trade waste agreement established by your local water authority.
