What is a cooling and straining tank?

Cooling and Straining Tank:

A cooling and straining tank is used to slow the flow of warm/hot waste water so the water can cool to a legally acceptable temperature before being discharged to the sewer system. Cooling the water prevents the growth of algae in the sewer system.

Cooling and straining tanks have two chambers: the primary tank chamber with a removable straining basket to trap lint, hair and other fibrous matter and a secondary cooling chamber.

Applications for the use of a cooling and straining tanks include: commercial laundries; laundromats; aged care facilities; hospitals; nursing homes and hotels.

Viking Plastics’ cooling and straining tanks are manufactured in Polypropylene (PP) and/or Polyethylene (PE). Above-Ground tanks are supplied with removable access covers and below-ground tanks are fitted with access covers (supplied separately) capable of being removed by one man. Tank dimensions and pipework positions are nominal and in all cases conform to Trade Waste recommendations. When space limitations dictate, equivalent capacity tanks can be manufactured to order.
